At K9 Klass we are dedicated to helping you teach your dog the skills and behaviours required to live a happy, enriched life using up to date, reward-based training methods, designed to be fun for both you and your canine companion!
Our kind and ethical approach to dog training will help you to build a bond with your dog that will stand the test of time. We are vet recommended and use only reward-based methods using the latest techniques to positively reinforce behaviour so that your dog enjoys working with you and will be motivated to repeat the behaviour you desire not the behaviour you don’t.
It has been scientifically proven that outdated pack leader, dominance and force-based dog training is not only damaging for you and your dog’s relationship but can cause lasting psychological damage to your dog. Punishing the behaviour merely supresses it and does not teach the dog how to deal with and overcome the problems they are having or how to behave correctly. True behaviour modification takes time, care and patience but the results speak for themselves!
We offer an extensive range of services for all your dog training needs, from group classes, bespoke puppy training and 121 training to owner only educational workshops. We also have specialist classes for dog sports and activities including pet gundog training, scent work, tracking, recall, lead walking and herding.
Our classes are held at Clanfield Memorial Hall, which has both indoor and outdoor facilities, allowing training to take place whatever the weather. We also have a second puppy course venue at Cowplain Activity Centre. Our workshops are held outdoors at Springwood Junior School in Waterlooville. 121 training can take place either at your home or at a location of your choice within the Waterlooville, Portsmouth, Havant, Emsworth, Petersfield and Fareham areas.
We have two levels of puppy classes, our foundation course for puppies post vaccination up to 6 months of age, covering the all-important basics of training and life skills; and our intermediate course for puppies 6 months and over, to help you prepare for and survive the tricky period of adolescence.
We run training classes aimed at gundog breeds and their crossbreeds, where we use their natural instincts and abilities to work on foundation gundog training skills and show you how these can be transferred to benefit you in everyday life. Whether you intend to carry on your training with a gundog club or just want to do something fun with your dog that gives them an outlet for the work they were bred to do, these classes will be suitable for you.
UK Sniffer Dogs was created for pet dogs, making it fun and rewarding putting your dog's natural scent abilities to work. We run bronze, silver and gold level scent detection classes and trials. Scent work is suitable for dogs of any age, breed and activity level and has even proved to help with a number of behavioural problems from over arousal, anxiety, reactivity and more.
Quickly growing in popularity, tracking involves the dog following track scent, disturbance in the ground left by human footsteps. Using their nose to follow the trail, the dog will identify any evidence left along the way and track the route of their target person. Suitable for all breeds, tracking is a great way to work in partnership with your dog, provide them with a job to do and give them a great source of both physical and mental exercise. We run bronze, silver and gold level workshops and trials.
Two of the most common problems owners contact us about are not coming back when called and pulling on the lead. We have two bespoke dog training courses aimed solely on these areas, our two week Lead Walking Masterclass and our four week Recall Masterclass, to help you to understand the reason for the behaviour, how your behaviour can affect how your dog behaves and give you the toolkit you need to overcome the problems you are having.
If you’ve felt that knot in your stomach as your dog takes off towards objects or animals, Un-Chase!® is for you. Unruly chase behaviour can be frustrating and embarrassing, despite how common it is. It can also be dangerous. Un-Chase!® was designed to create real-life solutions for dogs who chase, and has been developed over the past 12 years to provide relief for dog owners across the world. From vehicles, livestock, pets, wildlife, and even the vacuum cleaner - Un-Chase!® has proven successful with them all.
With many herding breeds now living in urban environments as pet dogs, they often do not have an outlet for their natural breed instincts, which can result in behavioural problems including traffic chasing, reactivity, repetitive behaviours and environmental sensitivity to name a few. Our herding workshops cover the theory of how your herding breed works as well as introducing you and your dog to the herding game; a fun way of herding using balls to represent sheep, which provides a great outlet for your herding breed's natural instincts and can help to prevent behavioural problems arising.
Our 121 packages are tailored to work on your individual needs. Our training 121s can cover any training issues you are having such as coming back when called, walking nicely on lead, jumping up, over excitement with visitors etc. Our 121s include written summaries on what is covered in each session, a clear plan of action to work on, as well as easy to follow instructions on any training exercises covered.
For more in-depth behavioural issues you may be having, we offer a behavioural consultation package, which consists of an initial 90 minute consultation and two 60 minute follow up visits, during which we will explore your dog's emotions, identify the underlying cause of their behaviour and create and implement a behavioural modification plan. We specialise in reactivity, resource guarding and chase related behaviours.
Here at K9 Klass Dog Training, we provide a number of educational workshops, suitable for dog owners and people working in the dog industry such as walkers, groomers and aspiring trainers. Ranging from canine body language and reactivity, through to dog first aid, these workshops will help you to understand how to speak dog, understand how they learn, what makes them tick and how to use positive, reward based techniques to overcome training and behavioural problems.
If you prefer to learn at a time and pace that suits you and fits around your busy life schedule, then we offer a foundation dog training course covering key skills from our puppy foundation course. Using a combination of videos, step by step instructions and handouts, this all-inclusive course is suitable for puppies, rescue dogs and older dogs with little or no previous training. More online courses to follow soon.
"I had tried a couple of different classes before finding Juanita and I have been sooo impressed. I booked a course of 3 121 training sessions and I saw a difference in Reggie after session 1. She is very professional and you can really feel the passion for dogs when you meet her. I will be using other services from her and would highly recommend!"
